Step 1: Rally your motivation
Begin by asking why you’re learning this language.
Is it:
For your job?
For an exam?
For your studies?
You’re getting ready to migrate?
You’ve moved to the country where it’s spoken?
You’re travelling to where it’s spoken?
You want to talk with new or older family members?
As a hobby?
As a challenge?
To keep your brain active?
To brush up what you once learned at school?
For fun?
If learning this language is something you want to do, call this intention to mind as you begin your journey and then each time you hit a slump.
Zooming out to the big picture and feeling its power will energise you to keep going.
If you have to learn this language, then dig deeper and find the personal purpose that’s hidden in the external one.
Perhaps you’ll be promoted at work, get a pay increase, be able to work in your profession, get a visa, win a scholarship, get into a postgrad programme or make your family proud.
This is your real reason for learning and the one you summon whenever you’re feeling stuck.
Zooming out to this big picture and feeling its power will invigorate you to keep going.
Step 1: Rally your motivation.
Here are Step 2, Step 3 and Step 4.
