Ready to reset your language learning objectives?

Working towards goals will help tackle weak points.

I can understand nearly all that’s said on the French news, in French documentaries and on French podcasts when everyone takes turns to speak and wants to get their message across clearly.

But making sense of what’s said on TV shows and movies is still challenging for me.

Characters interrupt each other, talk over each other, use idioms and slang. Sometimes there are only snatches of conversation to catch.

No problem: French subtitles have become my loyal friends, helping me enjoy French shows on YouTube, Netflix and Arte.

They’ve also sped up my reading and expanded my vocabulary.

Yet I must admit I’ve been relying on them too much for too long.

The time has come to end my overdependence on subtitles.

I jumpstarted my French project by resetting my motivation.

Now it’s on to Step 2: Set your objectives

My objective is to be able to understand over 90% of what’s said on French TV shows and movies without subtitles by this time next year.

Each month I’ll focus on a TV show with 30-minute episodes that I can watch and repeat, watch and repeat.

The rewind button will be my new best friend and the 12 monthly milestones will get me to my goal.

How about you?

Are you ready to reset your language learning project too?

Check in with your motivation, decide your objectives, do something regularly and enjoy your language learning.

If you need a hand getting back on track, I can help.
